Title: Production Assistant
Description: Skyhorse Publishing, one of the fastest growing independent publishers in America, has an exciting opportunity for a Production Assistant. The Production Department is responsible for managing the actual manufacturing of books, which includes printing and binding the text, jacket, covers, and any other components that may be part of the final book. In addition to having the books manufactured, Production is responsible for estimating and monitoring book costs, vendor selection, and quality control.
Requirements: Responsibilities Include:
• Handle all printer proofs
o Review, route, and approve or send to production/art for appropriate corrections
o Maintain contact with printers related to proof transmittal and approval
• Check and approve carton labels; review and approve changes to carton quantities based on printer, sales department, and warehouse needs
• Oversee all in-house ARC production, including maintaining and enforcing ARC schedule, coordinating quantities and needs across departments, ordering, and distributing ARCs
• Conduct primary quality assurance on new printed books, ensuring that quality and treatment of printer advance copies correspond to orders placed; respond to customer QA inquiries
• Assist with duties of other Production staff and Managing Editorial staff when needed due to absence or workload
• Directly support Print Production Manger as needed
• Serve as in-office proxy and contact for Print Production Manager

• 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience
• Prior office experience preferred; previous internship or employment in publishing a plus
• A demonstrated interest in book publishing; interest in and/or knowledge of production, printing, and manufacturing a plus.
• The ability to communicate clearly and openly, both verbally and in writing, with others inside and outside the office is critical.
• Ability to independently manage multiple responsibilities with limited supervision in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills and attention to detail are essential
• Strong command of Microsoft Excel; demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Adobe Reader, FTP software; ability to use a web browser.
