Title: Senior Designer, Children's Books
Description: Workman Publishing’s children’s department is adding a senior-level position to help us create innovative children’s books.

Here’s what we’re looking for:
You love to collaborate with editors, writers, illustrators, and other designers to develop new ideas. You love to create innovative design concepts. You’re a great listener who responds thoughtfully to feedback from our art directors, editors, and sales team. You’re a detail-oriented perfectionist who loves to dig into the weeds of a design project, to make sure everything is thought-out and harmonious. You’re gratified by a project that is running smoothly, and adept at problem-solving when a book is complicated and needs some extra TLC. You love children’s books and graphic design, and are eager to mentor our junior designers.

Here are some of the things you might do in a typical week here:
· Design a book cover, and revise it based on feedback from the art director, editors, and sales team
· Make preliminary designs and research illustrators for a project in development
· Attend a production meeting, prepared with notes on the status of all our children’s titles
· Meet with editors and the art director to discuss revisions to illustrations
· Communicate with freelance illustrators to convey our feedback and guide them in the right direction
· Participate in our weekly children’s development meeting, where we share inspiration and devise exciting new projects

Qualifications:
· BFA in graphic design or a related field
· Minimum five years of design experience, preferably in children’s publishing
· Strong design skills, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
· Must be a collaborative team player
· Must be a creative problem-solver
· Must be able to work under tight deadlines

And a little about us:
We are publishers of award-winning children’s books, including Brain Quest, Indestructibles, and Big Fat Notebooks; we also publish gift books and fiction, as well as cookbooks, parenting/pregnancy guides, and books on gardening, country living, and humor. Located in the heart of New York’s Greenwich Village, in a converted printers’ building, our offices are high-energy and creative, filled with people who are passionate about what they do.
Requirements:
Company: WORKMAN PUBLISHING
Location: New York, New York 10014
How To Apply For This Job: If this sounds like a job you’d excel at and enjoy, please send your cover letter, résumé, and portfolio to jobs@workman.com. We apologize in advance, but not all applicants will receive a response.
