Description: | SUMMARY:
Hachette Books is seeking a highly-motivated and creative Senior Publicist to join our publicity team in securing national media attention for our actively publicity-driven list. Our ideal candidate is an independent thinker, enthusiastic about promoting nonfiction titles, has a desire to take on more responsibility, shows initiative in shepherding his/her own projects through the publicity process, and has a proven track record of creating and executing successful book publicity campaigns for non-fiction titles. The position will afford significant opportunities for candidates looking for wider-than-usual exposure to the over-arching publishing process with the Publicist participating not only in publicity campaigns but in the marketing planning process, Sales discussions, and other HBG company-wide initiatives. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: -Secure reviews, author interviews, features, and op-eds/essays for assigned titles in both national and regional/local media; work with Publicity department colleagues on other titles and pitch the full list of titles at seasonal meetings, as necessary. -Build and maintain relationships with media and event venue contacts nationwide; meet regularly with New York-based contacts. -Arrange author events with bookstore and non-bookstore venues; coordinate travel for touring authors, as necessary. -Create dynamic press materials and targeted email pitches to tie into news hooks. -Collaborate with authors and agents on publicity campaigns; maintain relationships with both front and backlist authors. -Partner with Marketing department to ensure that publicity plans and activities are consistent with overall marketing strategy for the book and the imprint. -Communicate with Editorial, Marketing, Sales, and Subrights as part of a cohesive publicity effort for each title. -Participate in the coordination of regional trade shows, festival attendance, award submissions, and more. |
Requirements: | KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
-4+ years prior book publishing or publicity experience, preferably in trade publishing. -Experience working with a wide variety of local and national media; knowledge of print, broadcast and online media contacts, trade book publishing, and the overall media landscape. -Superb written and verbal communication skills; poise and confidence in communicating with authors, agents, media, and in-house colleagues. -Strong organizational and problem-solving skills: ability to multi-task, prioritize, manage time effectively, and work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while also maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. -The ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively. Experience with social media, blogs, podcasts, and new media preferred. |
