Description: We are looking for one intern to support the Editorial team at our academic publishing group, 14-16 hours per week with a flexible schedule. While we are a quiet office, we love folx with charisma. The topmost requirement is a "pitch-in" attitude. We will assign you a variety of tasks from vetting manuscripts, communicating with professors, drafting contracts, editing / copyediting content, managing peer review process and reviewing their reports, occasional organizational support of the Editorial team, among other special projects on an as-needed basis. Candidates should have excellent relationship-building skills, as well as be competent in Microsoft Office, be passionate about writing and editing with a strong desire to learn about publishing!

Skills you’ll learn: communicating with professors, learning about the academic publishing and for-profit publishing models, third-party permission assessment and familiarity, Library of Congress database and application process, researching scholars for peer review, learning how to communicate with subject matter experts, contract preparation and negotiations, assessing manuscripts per in-house submission guidelines, learning the dos and don’ts in preparing an acquisitions strategy for a new book series, pitching project(s) to a Publishing Board

Requirements: Desired skills: editing, copyediting, Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Dropbox, PC-interface, takes initiative when communicating, email management, interest in learning the industry and beginning steps to an editorial career in academic publishing, passionate about books
