Company Name: BEHIND THE BOOK
Description: Behind the Book works directly in New York City public schools, providing rich, innovative literacy programs to urban classrooms. Working with grades Pre-K to 12, Behind the Book identifies books that speak to students, then partners with teachers to create immersive curriculum units that bring those authors into classrooms. Through a series of workshops, authors discuss their work and teach a genre of writing, encouraging students to see themselves as readers and writers.

Behind the Book seeks an intern to assist the Executive Director (ED) with programming, fundraising, and administrative tasks.The intern will work closely with the ED to support all aspects of the organization, including programming and fundraising. The position is based in our Harlem office, with a commitment for one semester. Hours are flexible, ideally two days a week.

Responsibilities include:
- Supporting ED with program logistics and administration
- Researching authors and books
- Assisting with publication process for student-created books, including proofreading
- Assisting in creating lesson plans, activities, and worksheets for school programs
- Designing flyers and photo montages for celebrations
- Assisting at classroom workshops and with events
- Assisting with fundraising initiatives

Qualifications: Organized, dependable, and interested in learning about all aspects of nonprofits. Detail-oriented and able to manage tasks independently. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are required, as are strong computer skills in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
